Photography Instructors

PCNW offers over 40 courses, classes, and workshops each quarter. We have a diverse student body of BFA candidates, Certificate students, professionals and hobbyists. We are looking for adjunct faculty candidates and instructors to teach classes and workshops in:

  • Digital photography (immediate openings available, please provide references)
  • Color photography
  • Black and White photography
  • Ideas & Practice
  • Various workshops

Instructors receive $30 per teaching hour during their first year; this rate increases to $35 per hour in the second year of instruction. Classes are typically 30 hours quarterly and workshops can vary from a few hours to multiple sessions. MFA and teaching experience preferred and for certain courses, required. Volunteer Program


Volunteering at Photographic Center Northwest offers opportunities to connect with the photography community, learn new skills, build your résumé and connections, and to support a non-profit arts center. We rely on volunteers to open our doors to hundreds of artists, students, members, and community groups annually. Thank you for considering this important role.

Volunteer roles

Board Members

The Photo Center is currently recruiting new board members. We are looking for candidates who care deeply about the mission of the Photo Center, are able to donate time and money as required in by-laws, and have an existing network of contacts (personal and/or organizational) that can be mined to benefit the organization.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. have deep knowledge and/or involvement of the arts & culture community in the Pacific Northwest
  2. have senior-level business and/or operational experience at a successful public or private organization
  3. have one or more of the following experience or skill sets:
    • finance
    • marketing
    • non-profit arts fundraising
    • arts administration
    • legal affairs
    • gallery/art sales
    • urban planning/real estate
    • Working photographer

Digital Program Volunteer

This volunteer role assists students, clients, and faculty members who use our digital lab. A friendly, outgoing demeanor, experience with digital photography fundamentals, such as scanning, printing, curves, and basic skills with Adobe Photoshop and Mac platforms is required. Training is provided.
Minimum commitment: 4-6 hour commitment weekly on a quarterly basis

Analog & Studio Program Volunteer

This volunteer role assists students, clients, and faculty members who use our black & white darkrooms and lighting studios. A friendly, outgoing demeanor, experience with studio lighting, darkroom printing, darkroom and chemistry set-up, and a commitment to procedures and safety is required. Training is provided.
Minimum commitment: 4-6 hour commitment weekly on a quarterly basis

Senior Digital Program Volunteer

This volunteer role is reserved for individuals who have advanced knowledge of digital programs and have a successful track record of volunteerism at the Photo Center for at least two quarters. Senior volunteers are responsible for monitoring the digital facilities and other volunteer leadership responsibilities as assigned. Senior volunteers serve an important role as ambassadors for the Photo Center and mentors for other volunteers. Minimum commitment: 4-6 hour commitment weekly for a minimum of 2 quarters, weekend hours may be required

Senior Analog & Studio Program Volunteer

This volunteer role is reserved for individuals who have advanced knowledge of analog and studio photography and have a successful track record of volunteerism at the Photo Center for at least two quarters. Senior volunteers are responsible for monitoring the digital facilities and other volunteer leadership responsibilities as assigned. Senior volunteers serve an important role as ambassadors for the Photo Center and mentors for other volunteers. Minimum commitment: 4-6 hour commitment weekly for a minimum of 2 quarters, weekend hours may be required

Helping Hand Volunteer

If you are interested in volunteering at the Photo Center or giving pro bono assistance, but you only have a day to spare or an hour per week, please contact us and we can find a project for you! Projects may include cleaning, painting, help with events, IT work, data entry, etc. Thank you for sharing your time and skills.

Event Committee Volunteer

Do you have event experience and are interested in joining a fast paced planning process and hard working group of staff, board members, and volunteers? Consider working on one of our four major annual events. We are looking for volunteers who can be positive, pro-active, connected team members to help with anything from gallery installation to sponsor cultivation.
Minimum commitment: 3-5 hours per month prior to the event. Planning usually occurs 6 months before the event and we ask that volunteers be able to volunteer at the event as well.
